Long before I started trauma therapy, I began to understand myself and my experiences through reading stories about people living with trauma. During my undergraduate degree, I found myself in the world of trauma studies and psychoanalytic theory. It wasn’t until my PhD that I began to read books by trauma therapists and mental health practitioners.
I offer this syllabus for those looking for a way into learning about trauma. I’m an interdisciplinary learner, and so I offer texts across a variety of genres, including nonfiction, memoir, self-help, fiction, and poetry. I’ve also organized books based on topics of interest, so you may find some overlap across reading lists. This is in no way a comprehensive list. Rather, one curated based on my understanding that when we heal ourselves, we heal the world we live in. I’d love to know what you’d add to the list(s)!
This is a free resource, and you’d like to send a tip, you can do so through my website, through Venmo at Margeaux-Feldman or PayPal at paypal.me/MargeauxFeldman. Your support truly does make this work possible for me, and enables me to continue to create free resources as a chronically ill human.
In this digital world, we spend so much of our time on screens. Lately, I’ve been yearning for the before times. As a child of the 90s, I remember how excited I got when I received a letter from a penpal or a postcard from a friend on their travels. Now, as an adult in the age of email, one of my favorite things is to receive something sweet in my mailbox. The process of opening, holding, and engaging with writing and art from creators I love helps bring me back into the present moment. ENTER: CARE MAIL — Because I wanna offer you support offline too!

This coloring book is a collection of 50 of my favorite memes from my Instagram account @softcore_trauma. Coloring is an activity that can help us feel grounded in the present moment and calms racing thoughts. It quite literally helps us regulate our nervous system. I bring these memes to you, hoping you’ll find some joy, and maybe even some nervous system regulation, as you color them in.
Living with trauma is no joking matter. And, at the same time, I’ve found so much healing in looking at my trauma with humor and playfulness. When I laugh at the ridiculous brilliance of my trauma brain, I move away from shame and towards compassion. And it is compassion that moves us towards healing.
Filled with pictures of fancy cats and dogs, nostalgic pop culture figures, and your fav puppets, each illustration is paired with an affirming phrase, a self-care reminder, or some gentle self-deprecating humor.
Product Description
This 8.5x11" soft cover book is perfect bound, so the book stays nicely open to your page as you create your coloring masterpiece. For folks who’ve been around for a while, you might be familiar with my Poor Kid Trauma zine series, which has been sold out for some time now. Instead of reprinting them separately, I’ve decided to compile them into this chapbook.
What’s Poor Kid Trauma all about? Poor kid trauma is a term that I started using to describe the ways in which living in poverty is deeply traumatic. In this writing, I share my experience growing up in poverty and the work I’ve been doing to rebuild my sense of safety in the midst of poverty’s ongoingness. Inside the chapbook, you’ll find 8 essays, as well as a new foreword and epilogue.
In “Poor Kid Trauma #1” I share my experience growing up in poverty and the work I’ve been doing to rebuild my sense of safety in the midst of poverty’s ongoingness. The next section, “Poor Kid Trauma #2: Surviving Housing Crises,” includes three essays. “The Unhomely” tells the story of my re-occurring dream about being evicted from our family home; “Model Homes” is an essay about the dream of upward class mobility and its impossibilities for those of us who’re poor; and “Empty Houses” is about how the healing power of friendship and how it can help us move from fear to safety.
The final section, “Poor Kid Trauma #3: What Happens When the Poor Die,” includes four essays. “Slow Death” is about the ways in which capitalism sets up the poor and disabled for lives of struggle. “The Ash Keeper” tells the story of what happened when the urn I purchased for my father’s ashes was too small; “How to Plan a Funeral When You’re Poor,” an essay in fragments, details all of the challenges I encountered when attempting to plan a funeral service for my father; and “Forest Fires” is the eulogy I wrote for myself and the grief of losing a parent who never gave you the love and care you deserved.
In order to afford printing these babies, I have opened up pre-sales. In order to afford printing these babies, I have opened up pre-sales. I’ll need to sell 50 copies of the chapbook to front the cost for printing As a special thank you, the first 50 orders will receive a free coloring sticker pack!!

Once a zine, I’ve expanded Chaotic Love into a chapbook with new essays, including my no longer available zine Loving Laterally, now clocking in at 92 pages! This chapbook is a love letter to those with disorganized attachment. Across 7 essays, I share my experiences living with and learning to love as a human with disorganized attachment, complex PTSD, and a dissociative disorder. I also seek to challenge the cishetero norms of romance and love that have toxically shaped our understanding of intimacy.

There’s been a lot of talk about the importance of radical honesty in supportive relationships. For those of us living with trauma, our attempts at radical honesty were often punished, intimacy was withheld, and we learnt that it wasn’t safe to share our truths with others. In this zine, I talk about the counterpart to radical honesty: radical receptivity. I draw on my knowledge of and experience in generative somatics, attachment styles, and boundary work to explore how radical receptivity can help us foster intimacy after trauma and enable us to move towards radical honesty.

As a non-fiction writer with a really, really bad memory, I cannot tell you how many times I’ve read someone’s memoir and thought, with frustration and incredulity, How can they possibly remember all these details? Again and again, I’ve had readers of my work ask me for more: What were you wearing that night? What did you talk about with your best friend from high school? How did your body feel when they touched you? All I want to say in response is If I remembered, then I would have written about it.
Last year, during my MFA, I took a course where we read writing manuals and guides, and were asked to create our own. I created what I wish existed: a guide that worked with the gaps in memory, rather than trying to fill them in.
Within the pages of Partial Accounts: Writing the Gaps, I encourage you to play in the both/and, letting fiction and non-fiction, truth and imagination, slip into one another. Over the span of 45 pages, I share 8 different essays with writing exercises that have helped me remember details that I’ve felt called to recount, as well as practices that honor the gaps and holes that may exist in your own memory landscape.

A recording of a previously-live webinar.
We are living through a moment of heightened crisis, as we watch the genocide of the Palestinian people unfold in real time before our eyes. So many are feeling totally overwhelmed, unsure of how to act; others are triggered by the current trauma we are witnessing, and by past traumas that this horrific event is bringing to the surface. It is a time in which many feel totally unmoored. frozen, overwhelmed, and unable to take action.
Why talk about values in a moment like this? Our values are our "why" behind the choices we make in the world. When we ground in our values, we take purposeful and aligned action. Our values are an anchor that we can turn to when our survival responses have taken over. Getting clear on our values also helps us figure out how we can contribute to the causes that we’re passionate about.
In this 2hr workshop, you will:
Determine your core values;
Understand how stress and trauma can cause us to act out of alignment with our values;
Learn to identify the survival responses that come up for you when under pressure;
Discuss how you can return to your values as a way to move through your survival responses so that you can act from your values;
Have the opportunity to gather in community with others who’re committed to living in integrity with similar values.
You’ll also receive the 30-page workbook that this workshop is based off of, filled with additional activities and reflections for you to work with.
Important notes:
This workshop will involve breakout groups and large group discussions. Participants can obviously choose to opt out breakout groups.
This workshop will be happening over zoom and the link to join the call will go out an hour before the workshop.
Registration closes 24 hrs before the workshop start time.
Workshop Cost:
I strive to make my offerings accessible for everyone, regardless of income. About the webinar: In the world of pop psychology, shame is seen as an enemy trying to hinder our success, and thus we must defeat it. This way of viewing shame positions it as a negative feeling that we should avoid at all costs — and, when we can’t, we shame spiral about our shame. It becomes clear that framing shame in this way actually creates a barrier to our healing.
A trauma-informed perspective can help us see that shame is often just trying to protect us. If we want to move from shame to self-compassion, we must learn to listen to what our shame is afraid of, without taking its stories as truth. When we befriend our shame, its hold on us loosens and we can gain access to the wounds that are calling to be healed.
In this workshop, participants will:
Gain a trauma-informed understanding of shame, and the importance of shifting from a pathologizing framework to a compassionate one better supports our healing process;
Learn some somatic tools for returning to our window of tolerance when shame shows up;
Explore what's underneath shame's stories, so that we can create new stories that are more compassionate and that speak to the wounding that shame has been trying to protect.
What this Webinar isn’t:
A therapeutic container for processing trauma;
A formal training for therapists or others in the mental health professions (only because Margeaux is not a trained therapist — please see their credentials and training below);
A space to question the validity of peer-to-peer learning.

This is a prerecording of a webinar that has already occurred.
About the webinar:
"Boundaries are the distance at which I can love you and me simultaneously" - Prentis Hemphill
Boundaries are one of the most fundamental ways that we assert our needs and build supportive relationships with others. But learning how to affirm your boundaries can be super challenging for those of us who grew up in homes where our needs and boundaries did not matter. As we become more confident in our boundary work, we can swing from one end of the pendulum to the other. Instead of having permeable boundaries, our boundaries become rigid. Instead of effacing ourselves to make others happy, we use the language of boundaries to avoid taking responsibility for the fact that our needs can and will impact others.
In this workshop, participants will:
Learn a 4 Step model for asserting boundaries that are rooted in your values.
Gain strategies for expressing your boundaries to others in ways that honour the context of each relationship.
Receive a trauma-informed approach that acknowledges how boundary work can activate our nervous system.
Be given a 24-page workbook with additional reflections exercises.

ANCHORED is a deck that began as I started my own healing journey from a lifetime of complex trauma and a newly emerging chronic illness.
In 2017, I was overcome by chronic pain, fatigue, and dissociation. I felt completely unmoored from myself. I couldn't write, but I knew I needed to channel what was happening to me through art. So I returned to my teenage love of collage, and began to create oracle cards. Overtime, I came to see that each card represented something that I needed along my healing journey. Creating this deck served as an anchor in turbulent waters, and I continued to add to it over many years, as my own healing processed and unfolded.
Five years later, I'd finished 75 cards and the project felt complete to me. But then I began to consider how ANCHORED might help others as it had helped me, and began writing the guidebook. I know that therapy is not accessible to everyone, which is why I wanted to bring this deck into the world. I also wanted to help folks feel connected. It can so often feel like our healing happens in isolation.
What is ANCHORED: a deck for healing?
ANCHORED is a deck of 75 oracle cards, each serving as... you guessed it... their own anchor. You can pick up this deck in moments where your nervous system is dysregulated and ask the deck for the anchor you need. It can also support you in other hard moments in life: before a job interview or a first date, after you’ve spent the day with your family, after a hard conversation with a loved one. You can also start your day by pulling a card and let that anchor guide you.
You can also use it to learn more about trauma and different practices for healing. The accompanying guidebook is 200 pages, and is written from a trauma-informed, social-justice perspective. Because trauma and healing are not just personal issues, but political ones. We cannot heal ourselves if we do not also heal the world that we live in.
The guidebook includes some psychoeducation about each card's meaning and its significance within our healing, as well as a practice, an invitation to deepen into the anchor, embody it, and integrate it. These practices include journal prompts, somatic tools, visualizations, rituals, art prompts, and questions.
There are also 6 different card spreads you can use for inspiration, each centered around a topic related to healing, from reparenting our inner little ones to letting go and letting in, as well as a bibliography and recommended reading list for those who want to nerd out and learn more.

FAQs
How do preorders work? Once preorders close on September 10th, I will have the funds to get the printing started, and anchored should be ready to ship in November. I say “should” because there are forces outside of my control that can create shipping delays. Of course, I will keep you updated every step of the way.
Can I include other items from your shop in my preorder? Yes AND doing so means that you’re okay with waiting for everything to be shipped all at once. Overall, I would recommend placing your orders separately, because some products are sent via letter mail (to save you money).
Will anchored be available for purchase in the future? Yes, that is my hope. I’m just not sure when it will be. If you don’t want to miss out, I’d recommend subscribing to my newsletter.
What if my address changes? Before we start packing orders, I’ll send out an email to everyone with a link to share your updated address.
Testimonials
"My experience with the Anchored Deck is filtered through my lens of being an artist, therapist and survivor. Margeaux and their team created a product that's a lovely invitation for us to explore the layers of our healing and humanity. The deck is equal parts vibrant, eclectic, therapeutic and whimsical. In the last few weeks I've pulled it out with a number of clients as a way to reflect on the relationship between the parts of them that have survived pain and others that long to live more fully. This deck is a reclamation tool and one I'm confident supports us in further homecoming." - Mel Gentry Bosna (she/her), MSW, LCSW and author of In the House of Me
“As a therapist and fellow human living with complex trauma, The Anchored Deck has been a valuable and playful tool for myself and my clients, especially the teens I work with. This unique deck includes layers of wisdom about the nervous system and the creative pursuit of reconnecting with ourselves over and over. I love the invitations for action the cards include as well-- using Anchored is both an inward reflection and a gentle mobilizing force. It's even inspired some of my teen clients to make their own collages. I know Anchored will continue traveling with me from house to office, on trips, and into my nature adventures. It is a grounding tool that I continue to find a home within.” – Katie Jones, Somatic psychotherapist
“I love my deck. Since receiving it, I've made it a nighttime ritual to do a small spread or choose a card at random to think about and use as a writing prompt for my journal. I appreciate the ritual and framework that it creates for my writing and exploration. I'm navigating a difficult season emotionally and using this deck has helped me to further explore the subtext of my sadness and anger as I continue to integrate my past traumas with my present life. I've brought my deck with me to therapy appointments and to show friends.” – Rebecca, Paralegal
